Swing this way if you please and behold the ball of it all...In 1959 Hugh Hefner produced Playboy’s Penthouse T.V. show which proved to be the first of its kind. The format was modeled on a hip swinging bachelor party and the guest included the kings and queens of the world of entertainment who were all gathered in an impromptu style party.
There was Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Cy Coleman rubbing shoulders with Lenny Bruce, Sammy Davis, Jr. and a host of party goers. These T.V. shows were produced in black and white and lasted two seasons and made history.
In 1969 Hugh Hefner was back on television with Playboy After Dark. This time in living color. The penthouse shows featured jazz. This time Playboy After Dark added rock ‘n’ roll and the cream of the crop in the world of entertainment. It was one swinging 60’s style party featuring Linda Rondstadt, Joe Cocker, Mort Sahl, Sid Caesar, Sonny and Cher, Canned Heat, Ike and Tina Turner, Jerry Lewis and a host of celebrities and party goers.
The 12 page booklet was written by Bill Zehme and the cover of the booklet features one-of-a-kind artwork by Leroy Neiman. This will be a 3 DVD box collection featuring television shows from the 50’s and the 60’s. Every show has been remastered to bring back the glorious quality of it’s original flavor. Each DVD will contain 2 complete shows capturing a party only Hugh Hefner could have thrown. This time…you are invited!
