High Fidelity: Joe Walsh, Skynyrd in hi-res roundup

Audio Fidelity has embarked on an ambitious release schedule in 2010, with limited-edition 24 Karat Gold CDs out now or in the works for artists including Judas Priest (Hell Bent For Leather), Yes (90125), Simon & Garfunkel (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme), Randy Newman (12 Songs) and Alice Cooper (Love It To Death).

Judas Priest :: Hell Bent For Leather

It’s about time we got something remastered that really kicks ass.

I love 60’s and early 70’s rock classics as much as anyone, and yes I’ve got six different pressings of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon but I think we need a wider range of great rock records with sound quality to match. Kudos to Audio Fidelity and Steve Hoffman for doing a bone crushing job on this Judas Priest classic.

Alice Cooper :: Killer

This 24kt gold CD is a must-own for any Cooper collector or fan, or one who's keen to hear the best fidelity of a killer '70s rock 'n' roll record. It's incredibly well-manufactured, minus all the dynamic-killing compression common to new remasters of albums. The mastering engineer here is Steve Hoffman, whose own very large cult following regularly fellates his work on albums.

The Band :: The Band

Audio Fidelity uses Steve Hoffman to bring out the inherent qualities of the debut classic from The Band on this remastered AF Gold Disc series CD.  And as his skills always produces a sterling edition of a classic, so it enhances the quality of this S/T album by The Band that gave us "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" as well as "Up On Cripple Creek."

Blues Breakers :: John Mayall w. Eric Clapton & Rod Stewart :: Never A Dull Moment

England gave rock music some legendary performers and many are household names such as Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart.

Marshall Blonstein and Audio Fidelity have been unrelenting this year as the 24 karat gold releases keep coming from their vaults. Two more classics have just been released and they will surely sell out quickly because of their timeless popularity.

Blues and rock enthusiasts can now enjoy John Mayall with Eric Clapton Blues Breakers and Rod Stewart’s Never A Dull Moment in Audio Fidelity 24 karat gold CDs.

Herbie Mann :: at the Village Gate

You could accuse Herbie Mann (Herbert James Solomon) of “selling out” his serious jazz career for pop music stardom but that wouldn’t be fair.

The late Brooklyn born flautist managed to maintain credibility and respect on both sides of his long musical career, though the hit album Push Push’s naked upper torso cover was clearly a “jump the shark” moment.
